Marketing in a nutshell (with examples):

You see a beautiful woman at a party. You walk up to her and say, “I’m fantastic in bed!” - that’s direct marketing.

You see a beautiful woman at a party. You walk up to her and ask for her phone number. You call her the next day and say, “I’m fantastic in bed!” - that’s telemarketing.

You go to a party with your wingman and you see a beautiful woman. Your wingman walks up to her, points to you, and says, “He’s fantastic in bed!” - that’s advertising.

You get in your car and cruise around town, yelling to everyone you see, “I’m fantastic in bed!” - that’s spam.

You see a beautiful woman at a party. You stand up and make sure your jacket and tie are good. You open the door for the lady and pick up the handbag she dropped, and offer to drive her home in your car. In a witty tone, you remark, “By the way, I’m fantastic in bed!” - that’s PR.

And now the most important part: You see a beautiful woman at a party. She walks up to you and says, “I heard you’re fantastic in bed!” - that’s brand recognition.

After making love, your lover says, “You really are fantastic in bed!” - that’s customer satisfaction.

And when she becomes your wife, as happened to me, that’s brand loyalty.
